Newtownards
General Information
Newtownards is an old market town located in the Down County of Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. Known for a good shopping experience and is home to many artists and crafters, the town has an excellent arts centre, with galleries regularly exhibiting work by local and national artists, as well as an extensive performance itinerary throughout the year.
Overlooking the town is the 100ft high Scrabo Tower which was erected in memorial to Charles Stewart, the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry. It is open to the public and is filled with historical and local area information. Built in 1857 the tower stands on the site of an Iron Age fort where various artefacts have been found and recorded, to date the fort back to roughly AD500.
Newtownards offers visitors many attractions without the hustle and bustle of city life.
