General Information

Belfast is located in the Down County of Northern IrelandUnited Kingdom and is its capital city.  Belfast is the largest and most visited city in the United Kingdom

Historically, Belfast was the centre for the Irish linen industry and leaders of the shipbuilding industry, including the birthplace of the Titanic.  Today, Belfast remains a centre for industry, as well as the arts, higher education, business, and law, and is the economic engine for Northern Ireland.

The city had previously suffered periods of conflict, however in recent years has sustained a level of calm with substantial economic and commercial growth.

Belfast is served by two airports namely the George Best Belfast City Airport in the city, and Belfast International Airport just west of the city.  The shoreline is dominated by commercial and industrial docks, with the city being a major port at the mouth of the River Lagan.  To the north and northwest of the city are the Divis and Black Mountains, and Cavehill, providing good opportunities for outdoor activities.

Belfast city centre has many grand historical buildings amongst them two former banks; the Ulster and Northern Bank.
