Bangor, Northern Ireland - A Popular Tourist Destination
Bangor is a town located on the east coast of Northern Ireland, close to Belfast. It is a very popular and attractive tourist destination, the main attraction of the area for many decades. Most of its visitors still come for a short trip or a longer weekend, while some of them spend weeks and months, especially during the summer months. Since it is located close to the capital city, there is a frequent connection by bus and train, facilitating the travelers who want to spend some time there. There is also an airport, the Belfast airport which is situated almost ten miles away from Bangor.
The town has 77.000 habitants and is the most populous town in N. Ireland. It is a well-appointed seaside resort and features the largest Marina in Ireland, where sailing and charter boats are anchored all year long. Its beach holds the Blue Flag that certifies clean waters and beaches. Both in 2007 and 2008 the town was voted as the most desirable place to live in Northern Ireland.
Bangor is a residential town, although many of its residents commute to Belfast for work. It is part of the Down Borough and is host to two very important Yacht Clubs in Britain, the Ballyholme and Royal Ulster. The focal point of activities is the tourism of course, as it is the most lucrative industry for the town. There are many plans for the further amelioration and development of the seafront, especially since the locals estimate that there will be a significant increase in tourism the coming years; Bangor is considered to be a notable, yet affordable tourist destination for the Brits.
As expected there is a large number of accommodation outlets in the area, ranging from hotels and resorts to Bed and Breakfasts and small cottages.
